This prawn fish soup is a Mediterranean inspired recipe from the summers I have spent in Spain. It has a Mediterranean feel, and works well all year around. If in the middle of the winter you want a Mediterranean reminder that can work well on a cold day, I highly recommend giving this soup a go! Otherwise it’s a great summer soup.
I spend a lot of time in Spain in the summers and when I made this soup it completely took me back to the beach. It has the typical ingredients used in Spain, fish, tomatoes, saffron and paprika. You can use whichever fish you like, here I used cold water white fish and prawns.
This soup is very light and goes well as a starter or if you want it as a main then you could add a tomato bruschetta with it. Or you can go full on and have a small portion of paella as your main and the soup as your starter!
As I mentioned, this soup gives me summer vibes because I used to eat fish soups in Spain in the summer but it can work well all year around! So don’t worry too much, and enjoy this soup whenever you fancy being transported to the Mediterranean.
The fresh ingredients on these soups are a red bell pepper which is a summer vegetable but nowadays can be found all year around in the supermarket. Depending where you live, red bell peppers should be cheaper in the summer months than in the winter, so you may as well have it in the summer when it’s cheaper and probably of better quality! But again if you want it in winter you can also make it.

There are not a lot of ingredients in this Mediterranean inspired prawn fish soup, but you can also make some changes if you want. The main swaps I suggest for you to make are on the fish and prawns. You can use frozen or fresh fish and prawns depending on what you have in the fridge or what you can get in your supermarket and it will work nicely with both.
I used mini prawns but you can use any size you prefer. Mini prawns can be much cheaper so I used those instead but I have done it before with normal size prawns and it was great too!
For the fish, any white fish will work as well, in this recipe I am using cod but again you can use any white fish that is available in your area and that you like the most.
This recipe is gluten and dairy free! So if you have any issues with gluten and dairy digestion, this recipe will not give you problems!
This Mediterranean inspired recipe is low in energy, so it wouldn’t be enough as a main dish but you can have it as a started or have a side with it!
It is high in protein and low in saturated fat, low in sugar and low in salt.
It doesn’t have much going on in terms of carbohydrates so you can have a more carbohydrate focus side with it! That could be some slices of bread or some rice for example.
